Iraq launches plan to reform banking sector

Central bank says programme will enhance financial inclusion and raise productivity

The Central Bank of Iraq has launched an initiative to reform the country’s private banking sector in association with consultancy Oliver Wyman.

In a conference attended by prime minister Shia Al-Sudani on April 7, governor Ali Mohsen al-Alaq said the central bank had been working with Oliver Wyman for almost a year.

Alaq said the reforms would focus on bringing the banking sector up to speed with international developments in technology and finance.
