The Sveriges Riksbank governor, Erik Thedéen, warned commercial property companies to reduce their debt levels today (December 1).

Thedéen pointed out these businesses expanded their property portfolios and borrowing during the years leading up the inflationary shock that followed the pandemic, taking major financial risks. During those years, the Riksbank maintained rates around 0% and expanded its balance sheet, buying government bonds to boost inflation close to the 2% target.
