Iraq’s central bank denied it planned to ban cash withdrawals and transactions in US dollars, hours after an official apparently said it would.

Reuters published a report on October 5 that quoted Mazen Ahmed, the Central Bank of Iraq’s director-general of investment and remittances. Ahmed said the central bank would ban domestic withdrawals and transactions in dollars from January 1, responding to a severe shortage of the US currency.
