More depositors in Henan and Anhui to have frozen funds repaid

Chinese authorities announce repayments for depositors with savings of up to 250,000 yuan

Chinese authorities in Henan and Anhui announced today (August 5) a fourth round of repayments to depositors whose funds have been frozen at five rural banks since April.

Hundreds of thousands of depositors at four banks in Henan and one in Anhui have been unable to withdraw money from their accounts for months. Officials have said an investigation found a criminal gang had siphoned off money from the banks through a company.
