Bank of Spain paper looks at G20 regulatory agenda

A working paper published by the Bank of Spain examines the possible impact of further regulatory reforms on the markets’ estimation of bank risk.

In The G-20 regulatory agenda and bank risk, Matías Cabrera, Gerald Dwyer and María Nieto look at data on nearly 900 banks from 39 countries, from 2004 to 2014.

The authors look at the impact that some reforms that have been proposed, but not yet implemented, would have on banks’ ex post risk. They measure ex post risk using the volatility of banks’
