Eurozone countries need to carry out key reforms in order to carry out their planned “banking union”, said Olli Rehn in a speech in Rome on May 14.

That needed eurozone countries to address some “key issues of reform”, argued Rehn, who will become governor of the Bank of Finland on July 12. 

Rehn said one key priority for policymakers should be to increase the powers of the European Stability Mechanism. They should aim at “reinforcing its capacity to take decisions and extending its toolbox
