Brazilian reserve requirements inefficient liquidity tool: Fed paper

Brazil's use of reserve requirements did not provide adequate liquidity provisions during the crisis, a Federal Reserve paper, published on Saturday, says.

Patrice Robitaille, the paper's author, has conducted a case study of the Brazilian experience with reserve requirements during and after the crisis to shed light on the challenges of using requirements as a liquidity management tool. Robitaille notes that the introduction of liquidity requirements for banks, such as the liquidity coverage
