Unemployment in the eurozone increased to 8.1% in August, according to data released by the official statistical agency Eurostat today (October 1).

Total unemployment increased by 251,000 people from July to an overall number of 13.2 million. When the pandemic started hitting the region in March, unemployment in the eurozone stood at 7.2%.

Nonetheless, these figures could still be understating the impact of the pandemic, Eurostat warns.
