Argentina should borrow from international markets – Obstfeld

Economist calls for transition to floating exchange rate with inflation targeting

Argentina should take advantage of its improved economic reputation and borrow in international capital markets to repay prior creditors, Maurice Obstfeld has said.

In a working paper published this month by the Peterson Institute for International Economics, where he is a senior fellow, Obstfeld says the country should borrow from international markets instead of relying solely on repurchase agreements and multilateral financing to obtain the dollars needed to defend its exchange rate and help
