Closer ties between states will help shield continent from US tariff shocks, researchers say

Increasing trade ties with each other will make Africa’s economies more resilient to global shocks, researchers at the Bank for International Settlements have said.

In a bulletin published on July 18, the authors – Michael Chui, Leonardo Gambacorta, Emanuel Kohlscheen and Han Qiu – note that Africa is less vulnerable than some regions to the current turbulence in global trade, as the US is not a major trading partner with most countries on the continent.
