Policy to remain restrictive for now, says BoE governor

Bailey says there will be “gradual and careful approach” to any further easing

Andrew Bailey has said the UK’s monetary policy will need to remain restrictive to “squeeze out remaining persistence in inflationary pressures”.

In a speech today (June 26) at the British Chamber of Commerce’s Global Annual Conference, the Bank of England governor said low and stable inflation was “the best contribution monetary policy can make to growth and prosperity”.
