Dallas Fed study adds to official scepticism of US tariffs

Research says potential for domestic gains will depend on other countries not responding

Any gains from tariffs for US consumers will depend on the country’s trading partners not retaliating, researchers with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas have found. The research, published on May 13, adds to a growing body of evidence from economists in the Federal Reserve System that the measures imposed by president Donald Trump are likely to prove counterproductive.
