Lagarde calls on governments to prolong fiscal support

ECB president thinks measures are needed to boost post-pandemic recovery

The president of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, called on eurozone governments not to suddenly withdraw the stimulus implemented over the last months.

At the International Monetary Fund’s 2020 annual meeting today (October 12), Lagarde stressed existing fiscal support will need to be co-ordinated with regulatory, investment and educational policies boosting the recovery.
