Austrian paper estimates effects of European helicopter money

Researchers use data on likely consumption of windfall income from survey of 17 European countries

A working paper published by the Austrian National Bank (OeNB) estimates how effective direct monetary transfers to European households would be as an economic stimulus.  

In Helicopter money in Europe, Katharina Drescher, Pirmin Fessler and Peter Lindner use data from the Eurosystem’s Household Finance and Consumption Survey.

The survey looked at representative samples of households in 17 European Union countries. Its latest edition included an experimental question aimed at calculating
