Network analysis finds many central banks are limited in the scope of their research

Many central banks may be focusing their research too narrowly, according to network analysis published in a recent working paper.

Jakub Rybacki of the Warsaw School of Economics sets out to test whether the concentration of ideas in central bank research is correlated with deviations of inflation from target. He finds a “positive, but statistically weak” relationship.

The analysis of central bank working papers highlights the range of research styles by different institutions. Rybacki says
