The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia launched a new research body on September 8, tasked with gaining a better understanding of consumer behaviour and how it impacts the US economy.

The Consumer Finance Institute is an offshoot of the regional Fed’s Payment Cards Center, which launched in 2001 with the goal of filling a gap in research into consumer credit and payments.
