A working paper published by the Bank of Spain examines the effects of the 2008–09 global financial crisis and the 2010–12 eurozone crisis on European banks' debt issuance.

In The determinants of long-term debt issuance by European banks: evidence of two crises, Adrian van Rixtel, Luna Romo González and Jing Yang examine the European banks that most frequently issued bonds between 1999 and 2013.
