Central bank says a ban would be difficult to enforce and could impede innovation

Banning cryptocurrencies would “unnecessarily impede” financial innovation, the Dutch central bank has said.

In its latest statement on the topic, the Netherlands Bank (DNB) said it was not in favour of banning the instruments despite the threat they pose to financial stability.

Given the international nature of the crypto market, the central bank said a national ban would be “difficult to enforce” and could stifle developments in the fintech sector.

Such a measure, the central bank added
