Bank of Thailand to test retail CBDC

The Bank of Thailand plans to begin testing a prototype retail central bank digital currency (CBDC) next year, it announced on August 19.

The retail CBDC trial will focus on cash-like activities but only “within a limited scale”, including accepting currency, converting and transacting. The BoT said the trial will start by the second quarter of 2022.
