Zhou expects RMB to account for one-third of global payments in 2020
PBoC governor outlines economic objectives over coming five years in sweeping op-ed
China is aiming to turn the renminbi into a bona-fide international reserve currency before 2020, the country's central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan has said, in a sweeping article outlining Beijing's economic priorities over the next five years.
The "expectation", Zhou writes in the article, published on Chinese news site Caixin on November 9, is that "more than one-third" of international payments are made in renminbi at the start of the next decade.
