US Treasury: woman will appear on new $10 banknote

A woman will appear on a banknote in the United States for the first time in over a century, Treasury secretary Jacob Lew announced on June 17, when the next $10 note is released.

The US authorities – much like the Bank of England before them – have come under pressure to portray a woman on their currency, having last managed to do so with the depiction of Martha Washington on a $1 note in the late 1800s.
