Brief History

Established by the Central Bank of Malta Act 1967 and commenced operations on 17 April 1968. The main objective of the bank is to maintain price stability and to ensure a sound financial system, thereby contributing to sustainable economic development. Since 1 January 2008, the central bank has been an integral part of the Eurosystem, with no independent power to determine monetary policy. As a Eurosystem member, the Bank subscribes to the Eurosystem’s mission, strategic intents
