Brief History

Established in January 1980 as the Macao Issuing Institute. Its name was changed on 1 July 1989 to the Monetary and Foreign Exchange Authority of Macao. The name was simplified to Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) in February 2000. It assists the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) in the formulation and conduct of monetary, financial, exchange rate and insurance policy. It also supervises and regulates credit institutions and insurance companies and
