An international monetary system with more international currencies would be stronger than the present system, a deputy governor from the Bank of Mexico has said.

Speaking in Washington, DC, on October 6, Javier Guzmán Calafell said a higher number of international currencies would offer more possibilities to diversify overall portfolio risk: "A multicurrency reserve system, once established, will probably reduce the risk of a persistent overvaluation of assets, including exchange rates."
