Lagarde: Kazakhstan central bank needs clear mandate
Floating the currency was "just the beginning", IMF chief says
The National Bank of Kazakhstan needs a "clear mandate" for pursuing price stability, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund has said.
Speaking to an audience at the Nazarbayev University, Christine Lagarde urged Kazakh authorities to upgrade the monetary and fiscal policy frameworks in the country, to ensure they function effectively "in a world of greater exchange rate flexibility".
Floating the currency was "just the beginning to a modernisation of macroeconomic policies"
