Ukrainian governor declares victory in banking sector clean-up

The National Bank of Ukraine has "completed the clean-up of the banking sector", according to its governor, Valeriia Gontareva, who declared an end to the "so-called oligarchic banking" in the country.

Gontareva told an audience at the Yalta European Strategy annual meeting that 54 banks were put into resolution and placed "in the hands" of the deposit guarantee fund. She stressed that the financial market had been "stabilised".
