Romania governor calls for early entry into Banking Union

Romania will be affected by Banking Union either way, so would rather be inside than out

Mugur Isărescu, governor of the National Bank of Romania (NBR), said at a conference yesterday he believes Romania should join Europe's Banking Union ‘rapidly' – and before it enters the single currency.

There are, he said, "strong arguments in favour of rapidly joining the Banking Union", one of which being it would be beneficial to participate in the construction of something that is "still a work in progress".

Secondly, he said, "with the Banking Union in place, the domestic financial system
