During his tenure as chairman of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke "took courageous actions that were unprecedented in ambition and scope", his successor Janet Yellen told New York University's 2014 graduation ceremony today.

Delivering the ‘commencement address' at the city's Yankee Stadium, Yellen told the university's graduating class that what really matters for success "is a quality called ‘grit'" – one aspect of which is "the willingness to take a stand when circumstances demand it".
