Philippine governor touts country's microfinance expansion


In the Philippines, 186 banks with micro-finance operations serve more than a million clients with combined outstanding loans of 8 billion pesos, the country's central bank governor Amando Tetangco said in a speech earlier this week.

Tetangco outlined ways in which the Central Bank of the Philippines is helping micro-entrepreneurs become small enterprises, including increasing the ceiling of micro-finance loans from 150,000 to 300,000 pesos in order to support growth.
