Fischer urges peace in the Middle East

Stanley Fischer, governor of the Bank of Israel, today urged the country to reach peace agreements with its neighbours, including with the Palestinian territories, and end the conflict that "has continued here for far too long".

Fischer, the outgoing Bank of Israel governor, told the state finance committee that the onus was on Israel to be proactive in seeking out "partners for peace", and stressed that in the long term the country would benefit from resolving the conflict.
