ECB’s Cœuré champions accountability in Europe

Benoît Cœuré, a member of the European Central Bank's (ECB) executive board, expressed his backing for a vote by national legislators on European policies that instil redistributive effects across borders, in a speech on December 1.

Cœuré strongly defended transferring financial and crisis management policies from the national to the European level, but stressed the need for strong accountability.

Speaking in Paris, he encouraged the division of "who does what" within the euro area to be made
