Shirakawa calls for increase in Japan’s potential for growth


The governor of the Bank of Japan, Masaaki Shirakawa, on September 6 said powerful monetary easing has created accommodative financial conditions in Japan, and now the private sector must step in and accelerate potential growth.

Speaking at a Yomiuri International Economic Society meeting in Tokyo, he said the central bank has cultivated conditions that encourage firms and households to embark on business investment and consumer spending.
