Dombret proposes alternative to ECB-led supervision of banks

An agency other than the European Central Bank (ECB) "could be given ultimate responsibility for banking supervision", according to Andreas Dombret, an executive board member of the Deutsche Bundesbank.

In a speech delivered in Frankfurt on August 22, Dombret put forward the idea of integrating all EU member states into a European supervisory structure, before raising the question of appropriate leadership.
