Lagarde believes strong US role key to global recovery

International Monetary Fund managing director, Christine Lagarde, used a speech to  Washington on April 3 to emphasise the need for the US to take a prominent role in  economic recovery.

Highlighting the leadership shown by the US during past periods of economic upheaval, such as the post-World War II period, Lagarde emphasised that despite the greater role being played in the IMF by emerging market economies, the US still has an important leadership role.
