ECB will fulfil financial lender of last resort role: Constâncio

Vítor Constâncio, the vice-president of the European Central Bank (ECB), on Thursday said the recent liquidity measures undertaken by the central bank would enable it fulfil its role as financial lender of last resort.

At the 26th International Conference on Interest Rates in Frankfurt, Germany, Constâncio said both the ECB’s standard and non-standard measures were fast, targeted and decisive; and clearly within the ECB’s mandate, the main responsibility for solving the European sovereign debt
