RBI’s Chakrabarty suggests more active role for deposit insurers


KC Chakrabarty, deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, on Tuesday said deposit insurance systems should play a more pro-active role in regulatory frameworks, for early identification of bank failures and their effective resolution.

At the International Conference on Role of Deposit Insurance in Bank Resolution Framework in Jodhpur, India, Chakrabarty said: "When individual institutions fail, rather than let depositors be rescued solely by insurance cover, which is anyway not comprehensive
