ECB’s Bini Smaghi: contagion must be contained through rules-based approach
Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, a member of the executive board at the European Central Bank (ECB), on Tuesday said countries should ditch the ‘put your house in order' dialogue to address contagion and commit to the European Union Stability and Growth Pact.
Speaking at the 21st Century Forum 2010 in Beijing, Bini Smaghi said the crisis taught people a lesson that keeping an economy in order, or "keeping one's own house in order" does not necessarily insulate it from external shocks.
