Trichet: Reforms must keep an eye on financial markets

Jean-Claude Trichet, the president of the European Central Bank, on Friday outlined plans for the reform of the European financial sector and said more progress was needed.

"The financial crisis leaves no doubt that tighter regulations and supervision are required to overhaul the financial system," Trichet said at a conference in Frankfurt. "Reforms should be designed in a way that internalises the social responsibility that financial institutions bear for savers and society as a whole," he said
