US's Barr: hedge fund advisers must register

To protect investors hedge fund advisers will be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the first time and will be required to disclose to regulators and investors more information about the characteristics of their funds, said Michael Barr, the assistant secretary for financial institutions at the US Treasury.

To address systemic risk, hedge funds that were found to be so large, leveraged, or interconnected that they posed a threat to financial stability would be regulated
