BoE's Gieve: market signals mixed

The fortunes of the financial markets in the New Year have been mixed, said Sir John Gieve, the deputy governor of the Bank of England.

A general easing of pressures in financial markets occurred in the first week of the New Year, Sir John noted. However, he added that the end of the second week saw renewed fears.
