Trichet: euro is not dollar's competitor

The euro was not created to compete with the dollar, said Jean-Claude Trichet, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB).

Trichet stressed that the ECB was not campaigning for the international use of the euro and was letting the economic and financial players make up their own minds without trying to influence them.

The president also said that the euro was a big success. He said that the currency had faced many tests over the last ten years, such as the bursting of the internet bubble
