IMF: crisis calls for new statistics
Understanding the crisis may require out-of-the-box thinking on data, said Adelheid Burgi-Schmelz, the new director of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) statistics department.
In an interview with an IMF Survey Magazine, she said that since statistical work traditionally followed conventional data needs, it was not surprising that well-established statistics sometimes failed to satisfy new needs.
Work was already under way, she said, on identifying the main data needs that cut across
