Don't just focus on rates: Japan's Shirakawa

Though the increased attention given to monetary policy is welcomed, other aspects of central banking should receive more publicity, said Masaaki Shirakawa, the governor of the Bank of Japan.

"I hope that banking operations performed by central banks as the bank for banks will gain more recognition," Shirakawa said, adding that "through the conduct of the two policies - monetary policy and banking policy - I will dedicate my efforts to ensuring stability in both prices and the financial system."
