Subprime was trigger not cause: Fed's Warsh
Kevin Warsh, a governor of the Federal Reserve, said on Friday that the subprime crisis sparked, rather than produced, the recent bout of money-market turmoil.
Speaking in New York, Warsh said: "While the subprime-mortgage markets showed some of the earliest and most pronounced indications of weakness, I believe that problems afflicting the subprime-mortgage markets served more as the trigger than the fundamental cause of recent market turmoil and economic uncertainty."
