Muto lists criteria for Bank of Japan decisions

The Bank of Japan should assess three phenomena when deciding on monetary policy, says Toshiro Muto, a deputy governor.

Speaking on Thursday, Muto said the three were:

· whether the current economic slowdown is temporary and the economy can be expected to return to its growth path, or whether there is a possibility that it will last longer than expected;

· whether price rises could exert a negative influence on the economy, leading to future downward deviations in the economy and prices; and
