Structural reforms required to counterbalance monetary policy
The Bank of Japan's efforts to meet its 2% target for inflation are not only boosting incomes but income inequality as well, warns a working paper published by the IMF.
How Inclusive Is Abenomics? by Chie Aoyagi, Giovanni Ganelli and Kentaro Murayama, attempts to assess the inclusiveness of the reform package of Japan's prime minister, Shinzo Abe. To offset the effect of expansionary monetary policy on inequality, the researchers find structural reforms are essential.
