The Italian lira: 1896-1997
The Bank of Italy describes the history of lira banknotes issued by the central bank between 1896 and 1997 in a new section of its website, added in September.
The research is organised as a tour in four stages with 16 introductory files and more than 200 images, giving access to the collection of lira banknotes issued by the central bank, the machinery used to print them, various examples of counterfeit notes and the legislative texts that regulated note issue over the course of time.
