Banks’ capitalisation matters for monetary policy
The level of a bank's capitalisation matters for the transmission process in emerging-market economies, new research from the Bank of Finland reveals.
The research shows that better capitalised banks are less likely to adjust their lending practices following a change in the monetary-policy stance. The study analyses quarterly data on all Russian banks from first quarter of 1999 to first quarter of 2007.
