Innovation impacts money demand
Technological developments affect average money holding and interest elasticity of money demand, research from the Bank of Italy notes.
The authors argue that the level of currency holdings and the interest rate elasticity of demand depend on the withdrawal technology available to agents, and ATM card ownership or the density of bank branches and ATMs. The authors analyse Italian household data for the period 1989-2004.
