New research from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York identifies global trends in large-value payments.

The authors point out ten key tendencies: diffusion of real-time gross settlement systems, take-off of hybrid systems, emergence of cross-border and offshore payments systems, rise of continuous linked settlement bank, increasing settlement values and volumes, shrinking average payment size, falling numbers of system participants, extended operating hours and declining transaction fees.
